On Nov. 12-13, a team of accounting students traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Deloitte FanTAXtic competition. Two teams of Fisher students went to compete, and one of the teams took first place in the competition.
The winning team consisted of Matthew Colicchia, Nicholas Christiano, Jessica Bolak, Amaris Rodriguez, and Jacob Covert. The other team from Fisher consisted of Tyler Carroll, Jen Crater, McKayla Johnson, Allison Smith, and Bryce Dinehart. Professors Keck and Jeffres were crucial to helping the teams prepare.
Matthew Colicchia, a member of the winning team said, “We were really well prepared. Each of us had a thorough understanding of what we had to talk about. I think that’s part of why Fisher did so well at the competition.”
Large amounts of preparation and practice were involved in getting ready for this competition. Both teams worked to make sure they went over practice cases in order to understand what they would need to know.

Colicchia, explained how the teams prepared saying, “Each team got practice cases to work on and we had to make sure that we had the basic concepts down, got the numbers figured out, and fully understood each element and after we had the information necessary to explain the cases down, we began practicing the way we would present the case. It’s a very thorough process and by the end we were all well prepared.”
Congratulations to the two teams. The Fisher team that took first will head to Dallas, Texas in January to compete in Nationals.
