On Dec. 6, Olivia Rotondo won the Charles S. Smith Scholarship for students interested in public relations. This scholarship was awarded to students at Rochester Institute of Technology seven times during the past five years.

Rotondo noticed that Fisher hasn’t had strong participation in the past for this scholarship. She said, “We weren’t noticed in the past.”

This scholarship was created in honor of Charles S. Smith, a former president of the PRSA. Smith was very involved in helping and mentoring young professionals that were interested in the area of Public Relations.

When contacting Professor Rozelle about the scholarship and Rotondo, there were nothing but positive things to say.

“Throughout her time at St. John Fisher, Olivia has dedicated herself to the study of public relations, as Co-President of our chapter’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), she has worked hard to implement new programming and to grow the organization,” said Rozelle, who also serves as PRSSA advisor. “She exemplifies the kind of curious and critical thinking that we cultivate in the Media Management major at Fisher, and I can’t wait to see where that takes her.”

Working closely in all aspects of PRSSA was really cool for Rotondo. She said, “Bringing in different speakers broadened my horizons.”

What is nice about Rotondo being a recipient of the award is that she will give back half of the award scholarship funds to the PRSSA Tom Proietti Chapter at St. John Fisher. “I want to give half of it back to the chapter so other people can have the same opportunities.”
Rotondo says the funds she will give back to the Tom Proietti Chapter will go towards growing attendance for the national conference, as Rotondo has been able to attend the PRSSA national conference for the past two years.
