The Fisher women’s soccer team opened its season by splitting two games in a tournament at Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
Day one of the event on Saturday Sept. 1 saw the team fall to 2-0 to Montclair State. On Sunday the team bounced back for a 1-0 win over the host Haverford team, with freshman Carli Kovarik scoring the lone goal of the game in the 59th minute.
The team continued its winning ways in its home opener against Brockport on Sept. 6, with Kovarik once again getting the only score in a 1-0 victory. Home again on Sept. 8 was deja vu with another 1-0 win, over Marietta. Once again Kovarik netted the winner, her third in three games, this time assisted by Isabelle Destefano.
The St.John Fisher women’s volleyball team dropped all four matches when it traveled to Lake Forest Illinois for the Forester Tournament on Aug. 31 and Sept.1, losing 3 sets to 0 to the host team and by the same 3-0 score to Loras College on the tournament’s opening day. The second day of the tournament found them dropping matches by a 3-2 score against Milwaukee School of Engineering and 3-1 to Carroll University.
They had more success in their next two outings, downing Keuka College 3-0 in a road game on Sept. 5 and stopping SUNY Poly 3-0 two days later on the first day of the University of Rochester Invitational. The team then split its games on the second day of the UR tournament, defeating Wells 3-2, but dropping the final match 3-0 to the host Yellowjackets.
Fisher’s field hockey team went 2-1 over its first three games of the season, all on the road.
They opened with a 3-2 win against William Smith in Geneva on Aug 31, with Bre Socker getting all three goals. Lauren Fazio had two assists.
The team fell 3-2 to 13th-ranked Williams on Sept. 4, with Socker getting her fourth of the season and assisting on a goal by Fazio.
A trip to Canton on Sept. 8 set the team back on its winning ways, by a 1-0 score over St. Lawrence. Katelyn Slomba scored the game’s lone goal, assisted by Lindsay Scott.
The Fisher women’s tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 home win over SUNY Brockport at Mendon Racquet Club on Sept. 7.
Fisher won all three doubles sets including third doubles by forfeit when Brockport did not field any players. Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell took the first-team doubles match while Caroline Seaberg and Grace Peter one at second doubles. Saffran, Amanda Thongsirimonghoun and Zuzanna Pociecha all won their singles sets, with the final singles set again a win by forfeit.
The team improved to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 win on Sept. 8 against Elmira College. The pairings of Saffran/Bell, Seaberg/Peters and Valerie Morgans/Jacqueline Chouinard all won their doubles sets, while Saffran,Bell, Seaberg, Thongsirimonghoun and Pociecha all won their singles sets
