Men’s sports roundup through Oct. 14

Football

The Cardinals picked up their first victory on the season defeating Hartwick College by a score of 42-14 on Oct. 13 at Growney Stadium.

Quarterback Alejandro Utset finished 20-33 for 206 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start. Running back Malachi Duvall rushed for a career high 107 yards and had two touchdowns. Second-string running back Connor Spies scored his first touchdown in only his second varsity game.

The Cardinal defense forced six turnovers, leading to several of the scores.

The Cardinals are now 1-4 overall (1-2 in the Empire 8).

Soccer

The St John Fisher Cardinals lost a non-conference matchup to the Geneseo Knights 4-0 on Oct. 12 at Growney Stadium. Goalie Joe Catalfamo only made one save, and was replaced by backup Justin Miles. Miles made one save in the final 43 minutes of play. The Cardinals dropped to 2-9-2 (2-2 in the Empire 8).

Cross Country

The Cardinals took part in the Inter-Regional Battle in Glassboro, New Jersey on Saturday, Oct. 13. Fisher came in 32nd place out of 42 teams with an average time of 28:76. John Hopkins University finished in first place with 80 points. Bernard Daousts placed 129th overall with a 27:11, the fastest time for a Cardinal runner.
