Cardinals bounce back in second round of Shootout series

The Saint John Fisher men’s and women’s basketball teams defeated their Rochester Institute of Technology counterparts in second-round matchups of the Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout on Dec. 8.

The men scored an 80-65 victory, rebounding from a loss to nationally ranked University of Rochester two days earlier. In similar fashion, the Lady Cardinals defeated RIT 68-61 in overtime, also following a loss to UR in the first round.

Women’s results

Behind a career-high 23 points from sophomore Olivia Baumann, Fisher upset the 13th-ranked Tigers, dealing them their first loss of the season.Fisher is now 6-3.

After trailing most of the game, Fisher put together a 9-0 fourth-quarter run and was up by three with a minute to play. But RIT tied it then at 54 points each to force the overtime. After trading several baskets in the extra session, a 7-0 run over the final minute and a half of overtime gave Fisher the 68-61 win.

In addition to high scorer Baumann, key contributors were Alex Riegle with 14 points; Sydney Masna with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists; and Erin Hulbert with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists.
