OIT updates in response to Spectre and Meltdown CPU Vulnerabilities

Dear Campus Community,
In response to the latest news concerning security vulnerabilities with modern computer processors, OIT has been working with our vendors to determine our best actions.  Below is a link to some information released by Intel concerning the vulnerabilities.

To mitigate our risks, we will be applying security patches that have been released to all of our servers this Sunday morning, January 7th, 2018 during a maintenance time of 5:00 AM to 11:00AM.  During that time, you may experience intermittent issues access IT services on Campus.  Some of these include:

  • Outlook mail
  • Webmail
  • Citadel (p-drive, department file shares)
  • Blackboard
  • Campus Printing
  • Self-service password reset
  • Campus website
  • Student Gmail

In addition, the updates are being released to all SJFC owned laptops and desktops beginning today.  Your PC may require to reboot to apply the patches.  If so, please close any open applications and allow the reboot as soon as possible.

This is also a good time to check your personal computers at home to ensure that they have all of the current security patches applied.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Service Desk at 585-385-8016.
